I tried the light wash barrel leg jeans from Old Navy in a 0 petite, my usual size there. But I just don’t think I’m hippy enough. I heard from several influencers and not just you that they’re petite-friendly. But they still just had so much room in the hips that they looked ridiculous on me. Tried Madewell barrel jeans and also a no. I give up on that trend. It’s just not for my body shape, and that’s ok.
I think that the stiffer jeans types are only comfortable if you are really skinny. I used to be skinny when I was younger and so loved those types of jeans. Then after reaching perimenopause my body was not comfortable in those type of jeans and I needed more stretch because I would deal with sudden bloating or water retention. The other thing in my case is that my calves are very short and unporportioned with my thighs – so I look ridiculous is short waisted jeans or any type of garment that diesnt accentuate my waist. Even in 501s and some jeans that hit right under the bellybutton can chop my body in two and make me look tiny. I really need skirts, dresses and pants/jeans to accentuate my waistline to make my legs look longer. I also look best in ankle jeans so typically that is the 26 inch inseam – but preferably jeans that are not completely straight but go a little bit in at the bottom – like wedgie icon/slim ankle jeans. I do like the Levi’s ribcage rise – but they are too stiff for me and I usually have to size up to feel comfortable in them. I honestly don’t understand the petite sizing because a lot of garments are just not meant for petite women (or men for that matter). Like oversized style looks ridiculous on us. I wish Levis could produce custom made jeans! Flared jeans, wide jeans or overall jeans that hit just above or at floor looks ridiculous on me unless I wear heels – which can be an issue for me at age 45 due to EDS and pain… so I definitely try to buy ankle length jeans these days.
